Latest NZ Immigration Updates & INZ Policy Changes

This page tracks changes to New Zealand immigration policy as they are announced — Immigration New Zealand operational manual amendments, ministerial announcements, wage threshold adjustments, occupation list revisions, and changes to visa instructions.

It exists because timing matters more in immigration than people expect. An instruction that changes on a Monday can apply to applications lodged from that Monday, leaving applications submitted the previous week under the old rules and applications submitted the following week under the new ones. Knowing a change is coming is often the difference between lodging under favourable settings and missing them.

Updates here are short and factual: what changed, when it takes effect, and who it applies to. Where a change is significant enough to need explanation, we link through to a full guide on the blog.

Recent areas of change have included the median wage used for immigration settings, the extension of English language requirements to further AEWV skill levels, the replacement of ANZSCO with the New Occupation List, employment conditions for open work visa holders, and the Skilled Migrant Category reforms.

A note on how to read this page. An announcement is not the same as an instruction. Government press releases often describe policy intent months before the operational manual is amended, and the final wording sometimes differs from what was announced. We distinguish between the two, and where only an announcement exists we say so rather than treating it as settled.

If a change here affects a visa you hold or an application you are preparing, that is worth a conversation. Call +64 9 213 1677, message us on WhatsApp, or book a 30-minute consultation.
