NZ Visa Medical & Chest X-ray Checker

Answer a few questions to find out if you need a medical examination or chest X-ray for your visa application.

When Do You Need a New Medical or Chest X-ray?

Immigration New Zealand requires medical evidence so it can decide whether a visa applicant has an acceptable standard of health. If you're staying in New Zealand for more than six months you will usually need a chest x-ray, and for residence visas and longer stays you will also need a full medical certificate. A general medical certificate and chest x-ray are generally valid for 36 months once accepted with an application. However, you'll need a new chest x-ray if you've spent six consecutive months or more in a high-TB-incidence country since your last one.

This checker takes the guesswork out by asking about your current certificate dates, the visa you are applying for, and where you have lived. It then tells you whether your existing medical and x-ray can be reused on your next application or whether you need to book new ones — saving you both the cost of unnecessary medicals and the risk of submitting an application with expired health evidence.

Getting medicals wrong is one of the most avoidable reasons applications get delayed or come back with PPI letters. If you have a referred-for-assessment outcome, a chronic condition INZ has previously asked about, or you are unsure whether your panel physician's report has been uploaded correctly, talk to us early. Book a consultation with our IAA Licensed Immigration Advisers and we will check your health evidence before you lodge.
